With the recent airing of Burning Flame III, I started to reminiscence a lot about the first Burning Flame with Wong Hei, Chin Ka Lok, Louis Koo, Esther Kwan, Jade Leung, etc. Although the next two installments were good, it was far below in comparison to the first. The brotherly bond between Wong Hei, Chin Ka Lok, and Joe Cheng was heart-warming, and the short-lived romance between Louis Koo and Jade Leung was tragic, but memorable. Burning Flame I had a great impact in my memories, but I feel that Burning Flame II and III did not live up to the first installment. This series boosted Wong Hei up to be one of the finest TVB actors at the time. His popularity increased immensely and, as a result of the success of the series, he has been seen as the "firefighter guy." Which installment of Burning Flame was Wong Hei not in? He has stated that Burning Flame III will be the last of his participation in the Burning Flame trilogy. And without Wong Hei, will the audience be satisfied with a fourth installment? As much as TVB would like to try, Burning Flame definitely will not be the same without Wong Hei.
